Mission

Helping people flail responsibly.

D.O.R.F. — the Department of Responsible Flailing — is an Otherworld theme camp dedicated to reducing unnecessary chaos in high-flail environments. We believe everyone loses things sometimes: mugs disappear, jackets wander off, sunglasses achieve independence. It happens.

Our mission is to encourage personal responsibility while helping participants reconnect with lost items quickly and efficiently. Our camp provides supplies and services to help, including labeling supplies, carabiners and twine, lighter lanyards, and the Flailr lost-and-found barcoding app.

We aim to make flailing less stressful for participants — and less work for Leave No Trace teams.

D.O.R.F. operates from the belief that preparation, identification, and mutual support can dramatically improve survivability in dynamic recreational conditions. Because while everyone flails sometimes, responsible flailers help each other recover.

Flailr

Barcode-assisted flailed & found.

Flailr is a barcode-assisted lost item recovery system designed for high-flail environments such as Otherworld, WhatIf, and potentially more events in the future.

How it works

  1. At the event, get your barcode stickers from the Department of Responsible Flailing (D.O.R.F.) theme camp. Camp location will be listed in the event WhatWhereWhen (WWW) guide.
  2. Set up your barcodes in the app. Assistance is available at the camp.
  3. Place barcode stickers on your belongings.
  4. If a lost item is found, the finder scans the barcode using the Flailr app or web interface.
  5. The finder can notify* the owner and drop the item at predefined drop-off locations, including the owner’s camp if configured.

* Personal contact information is never shared publicly through the Flailr system. Owners may optionally provide a name and camp location to assist with item recovery.
